In the summer of 2007, Sam, Katah and Kerstin from Dragon Dance Theatre headed north…

We were invited to stay at the Kemijavi Artist Residence Above the Artic Circle,

spending a period of two and a half months, in Lapland.

During this time, we developped 6 different shows :

  • A ContaHistoria version of Persphone in the Underworld, using silkscreen images printed on banners
  • A Dance Poem called « Palms Reach up to Allah » integrating the projection of Linocut images by Sam and movements
  • The Death of Aino, inspired by Runo 4 of the finnish epic, The Kalevala
  • The Capture of the FireFish, an outdoor performance which included the participaton of 20 local artists.  This spectacle was taken from Runo 48 of the Kalevala
  • The Creation Dance, a choreography by Kerstin Eckstein
  • The Blue Tongue, a performance presented to commemorate the national Gereontology Day .

In November, we moved to KultturiKauppila Artist Residency in Ii, just 250 kilometers south of Kemijarvi. We had a large studio and plenty of easels...the above paintings depict some of the exciting moments or our residency.
