Cupid, at Aphrodite’s behest,
launches his amorous dart
and pierces Hades’ thick hide.
In a thundering rush of black horses
Hades rapts the virgin Koré.
Narcissus scatter on the earth
as the poor girl cries out but to no avail.
Cerberus roars in three discordant voices;
the wild terror in his eyes,
lights the way to the underworld.
Demeter walks the dusty roads mourning her daughter's disappearance
Demeter burns away Demaphoon’s mortality
As her teeth sink into the red pomegranate
Koré becomes; Persephone,
Queen of the Underworld
She knows herself to be...Persephone the Destroyer
The sun tells Demeter
what has become of Koré
Betrayed by her siblings,
Demeter refuses to let the seed sprout .
The brothers, Zeus and Hades confer
as famine threatens the fragile humans.
The Baubo’s gesture reminds Demeter of her power;
the power of her fertility
Hermes leads the way,
Persephone emerges from the Underworld
